Selling Your Plate

There are various ways to sell your numberplate:-

  1. You can sell it outright to an agent or another person
  2. Register it with an agent who will sell it for you on a no-sale no-fee basis

If you aren't sure if you want to sell your cherished plate you could begin by obtaining a valuation.

There is a small amount of administrative paperwork attached to selling a cherished number plate, but we will help you step-by-step through the process. It's a fairly straightforward process, but as is often the case, there are trips and traps for the inexperienced. With our help the you can transfer the legal ownership of your cherished number plate with ease.

You will be able to sell your cherished registration mark if:

  1. Your vehicle is MOT'd and taxed
  2. The registration mark is on a valid certificate (Retention Document or Certificate of Entitlement)
  3.  At the point of sale and transfer the donor vehicle needs to be taxed and MOT'd
  4. There are certain vehicles where the registration mark cannot be transfered, this is normally stated on the V5 OR V5C on the bottom left corner of the registration document it will say in number 3 special notes non transferable registration mark, this is usually when a private registration has been taken off the vehicle before, and the DVLA have issued the vehicle with another registration.
  5. There are certain vehicles such as tractors and steam rollers where the number plates are not transferable.
